There is exactly one CWS repair we encourage owners to attempt: lubricating the rollers and hinges with a silicone-based spray, twice yearly, and clearing the track of debris with a dry cloth. Everything else carries real hazard. Torsion springs store enough torque to break an arm or remove fingers; the winding cones on CWS hardware are 1-inch hex, and without winding bars seated properly, the cone slips. Impact-rated panels weigh 150 to 220 pounds each; a single failed hinge can drop a section without warning.

What you can safely check: whether the emergency release rope is intact, whether the photo eyes are aligned and clean, and whether the door moves freely by hand with the operator disconnected.
